Give mother a kiss
Father a hug
The time has come
We have talked about it
Many times before
But the time is now
Fake a smile
And turn away
Start alone
I must leave everything I know
Into a world
One I do not understand
Hoping to find out
Who I truly am
I am off
Not looking back
This is my time my journey
I have to do this my way
I walk in a girl
I will walk out a woman
Ready to face the world

6 Things You Need to Know About Studying Away from Home

Leaving home to study sounds fun and exciting but you have to take charge of everything! There are a lot of things you should be prepared of. No worries, it will all be worth it. Here are 6 Things You Need to Know About Studying Away from Home.

No human alarm clock

The first year in college will be tough, the first semester will be tougher but let me tell you that your first day will be the toughest. No human alarm clock and no prepared meals on your first day of living independently.

Basically, everything will be done by you and it will not be easy. Every day I kept missing my family and my prepared meals. Yes, it can be dreadful of course, but eventually, you’ll learn and appreciate how hardships can help you grow as a person just like I did. Alone moments in life are healthy; these can help you know yourself better.

Home-cooked meals

No matter how many choices of fast food chains are found near your school, it will be a lot cheaper if you choose to cook from time to time. But, if you’re someone who isn’t friends with frying pans, ladles and such, it will be a total nightmare. Trust me, I know the feeling! However, take this opportunity to learn a new thing — who knows, cooking might become your next hobby, right?

Reward yourself after studying hard

Living in a new city, hours away from your hometown, can give you the adrenaline rush of exploring your new found home. Even though your acads can be really time-consuming at times, never forget to venture around the city too.

Go for a jog or a walk in a park, reward yourself by trying on different cuisines in various restaurants every time you get a high grade, and look for the best thrift shops. Of course, do not forget your responsibilities: like in most things, balance is everything.

Doing chores alone

Chores such as doing the laundry, cleaning the dishes, keeping your room clean could be energy-consuming. Nevertheless, doing everything can help you save money and teach you on how to be organized too.

Budget your allowance

The allowance is such a heavenly word but one wrong move could lead you to being broke for days , or to the shame of having to ask your parents for more money. So instead of not being able to go out with friends or not being able to buy the things you need, learn to budget your money wisely. Understand how saving money can help turn you into a wise person. https://bettermoneyhabits.bankofamerica.com/en/saving-budgeting/ways-to-save-money

Keep in touch

Now that you are in a big city, there is a risk of getting too overwhelmed with it. Don’t forget to text or remind your parents or siblings, your high school friends even, that they are still part of your life. Don’t forget to stay connected to those people who helped you along the way because no matter what bump or triumph you encounter, they will always be there for you.
